Dr. Steven Selvaraju  was appointed the Director of PDPI on 1 February 2013. He holds Bachelor of Theology from College General, Penang, as well as Masters and Doctorate of Theology with Specialisation in Catechetics and Youth Ministry from the Pontifical Salesian University, Rome, Italy.

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Stdrsteveneven held a number of other responsibilities. He has worked as Project Director at the National Catechetical Office, Kuala Lumpur for 5 years. His main responsibility was to collaborate with a team of theological, catechetical and educational experts in preparing the Malaysian Catechetical Series. This locally-contextualised series consist books for learners between the ages 7 years to 16 years, as well as corresponding guidebooks for catechists. The books are available in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Tamil.

After completing the project, Dr. Steven moved to the Archdiocesan Pastoral Institute, Kuala Lumpur where he served as Formation Coordinator. His responsibilities included organising theological-pastoral formation programmes for the laity, especially the English and Tamil-speaking, in KL Archdiocese. He was also part of the CANews Editorial Team.

Later, feeling he needed a new challenge, he opted out of full-time work in the Church to lecture at a private college in Kuala Lumpur, where he taught Moral Studies and Malaysian Studies at the diploma and degree levels. In addition, on the invitation of Wawasan Open University, he wrote course materials for its students on Personality Types and Creative Thinking as well as tutored them on Comparative Religions.

Dr. Steven has conducted numerous talks and seminars at the level of the parish and diocese in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak. Although his area of specialisation is the field of Catechetics, he is well versed in other theological, pastoral and spirituality based-topics as well. He speaks English, Bahasa Malaysia and Tamil.
